digipak and poster

Final deadlines are looming - this friday for ancillary products ( digipak and poster) NO copyright-free images may be used. It must be all your own work. Look at comments/feedback and act on advice. Keep it simple and focussed. Don't over complicate it!

THIS WEEK'S WORK

This week's work:

  • you should be filming YOUR VIDEO outside of lesson time. If you haven't started, then NOW is the time. You should at least have your locations booked, dates made with your 'stars' in your video and costumes/props booked and organised. Half-term is an ideal time to get some filming done without lessons interrrupting etc.

  • 3 x analysis of digipaks and 3x analysis of music posters should be on blogs. Look at the example I have posted for ideas.

  • Friday 19th October is the deadline for your DRAFT digipak and DRAFT poster. These will need to be on Blogs and PRINTED, NAMED AND HANDED INTO THE ENGLISH OFFICE BY 3.30PM ON FRIDAY 19TH.

The quality for the poster and digipak should be as good as you can (i.e. colour prints on decent paper) and the digipak needs to be folded to ensure that it actually works as a digipak!
Any problems, see Mr Smith or myself BEFORE Friday, not on the day. Ensure you have sufficient printer credit, id card etc to enable the practical pieces to be handed in as smoothly as possible for you!! We will mark them over half term and give marks back

Digipak and Poster

You need to analyse 3x CD covers/digipaks and 3x adverts/posters advertising new albums.Include your choices on your blog with detailed observations.

Tips: Digipak
  1. choose covers which inspire you and are preferably in the same genre as your band/artist
  2. analyse colour palette and possible reasons behind it
  3. analyse connotations of names of bands and song titles and album name
  4. analyse layout, font, positioning of image(s)
  5. what is the image and what is the link to the band? Is there a sense of branding across their products? Why?
  6. are there any bonus tracks, freebies, posters , lyrics included?
Tips: Poster
  1. where did you find the poster? i.e. the magazine it came from/billboard/shop window etc
  2. coment on the layout ( think back to AS work on Golden Spiral, HOW it is intended to be read)
  3. comment on the colour palette and reasons behind this
  4. comment on font style/size (graphology) and its effectiveness
  5. analyse the image carefully. What/who does it depict and what is the intended audience supposed to feel?
  6. who, if anyone, has reviewed the album? why is this included?
Remember to be detailed in your observations. Are you going to adhere to existing conventions or deviate from these? Why? What will link your three practical products?

'Love you like a love song' amateur music video

Check out this video and some of the others in their collection on youtube; some of the camera shots and aditing are things you could  consider. Quality HD camera/editing software used but it shows what can be done and some nice disjuncture/narrative styles.

Marking Criteria for the Presentation of the Research and Planning

Research and Planning may be presented in digital format, but can take the form of a folder or scrapbook at this level. Ten Tips on Making a Music Video

Friday 14 September 2012

An example of the letter you could email to the song copyright holder

Dear Copyright Holder,

We are A-Level students and we are writing to request your permission to use one of the latest tracks by Two Door Cinema Club.  The track we wish to use is I Can Talk.

With your permission, this task would be used in our current A-Level Media Studies project, which involves creating a music video to a popular music track, as well as producing an album cover/sleeve  and a magazine advert for the artist.

If we received your permission, this track would be used in an educational context and be viewed by our media class, our teacher and the OCR exam board moderator.

The artist and your company would of course be fully recognised throughout pre-production and the final video itself.  A copyright notice with wording supplied by you can be included in the records of the project.  If this is required, please send full details.

We look forward to hearing from you,

Regards
